What is waterproof MDF?

Water-resistant MDF, also known as MDF Exterior, is an MDF board that is suitable for use in damp areas, both indoors and outdoors.

Water-resistant MDF is bonded with a water-resistant glue and the pressing pressure is higher than for ordinary MDF, as is the case for moisture-resistant MDF. In addition, the wood fibres are modified to increase the moisture resistance even more, which makes water-resistant MDF suitable for outdoor use. The core of the board is coloured dark brown, making this board material distinguishable from regular MDF.

Processing of water-resistant and moisture-resistant MDF

MDF board material is easy to process. It does not splinter when you saw or mill and the surface is smooth, so that the board can be finished very neatly. It is important, however, to degrease the board properly first. MDF has a strong absorbing effect and will, if not degreased properly, absorb the paint very quickly.

To do justice to the moisture-resistant properties of moisture-resistant and waterproof MDF, it is important to seal the board properly. The top and bottom sides can be sealed with a primer or a lacquer coating. The ends deserve some extra attention. These are best treated with an edge sealer.

Applications moisture-resistant and waterproof MDF

Water-resistant and moisture-resistant MDF can be used in different places and in different ways. Damp-proof MDF is used in damp spaces indoors and water-resistant MDF can also be used outdoors.
