Description

New bookshelves from essenhout in the living room with the intention of replacing the old chipboard ones with a melamine coating. Replaced 7 planks in total.

Wall shelves made of solid ash

In our room we had bookshelves made of melamine faced chipboard (18mm thick) with “ash” print. We were fed up with that, so we decided to replace them with real 26 mm thick ash. To do this, the wall had to be painted in a gray tone with a hint of red in it. The rails and supports were given the same color as the wall. Then in the garage (workshop) the edges of the boards were slightly rounded and all sides sanded. Subsequently, all sides were treated 3 times with water-based transparent matt lacquer from Ceta Bever. Used a roller for this. I did this in two sessions, because there was hardly any space to let all the treated planks dry at the same time. Sanded between the layers (the first time quite hard to remove all raised “hairs”). Finally put all the shelves in their place. We think the room has been renovated quite a bit. There is still a plastic box. We think we can do that in essence someday. The costs keep that plan in the fridge for now
